Colour That Suits You

Monday 26 February 2007 @ 10:49 am

These are tips I received when I attended a grooming course while I was working with a bank a couple of years ago…

Skin have warm undertones or cool undertones and based on this, you will know whether you are best suited in warm colours or cool colours. Warm skin tones have yellowish undertones while cool skin tones have blue undertones.

This is how we tested our suitability:

Wear a white shirt and the test will require a peach scarf and a blue scarf. Hold the peach scarf against your face and look at yourself in the mirror. Then, do the same for the blue scarf. Do you look better with the peach scarf or blue scarf? If peach suits you better, you have warm skin tones. However, if blue looks better on you, it means you have cool skin tones.

If you have warm skin tones, you will look good in earth tones colour such as peach and gold. Those with cool skin tones will look great in black, blue and any colours that has a bluish tinge

Dress To Conceal A Tummy

Friday 23 February 2007 @ 10:25 am

To Conceal a Tummy

  • Don’t Wear tops tucked in pleated pants, tight pants or belts.
  • Do Wear fitted jackets, tunic tops and flat front pants.
  • Wear tops that end just under your tummy.
  • If the material is clingy don’t let it drape over your tummy (it will make your tummy appear larger instantly).
  • Stay away from clingy material.
  • Wear shaped dresses, in a moderately stiff fabric, that glide over the tummy area

Tips To A Younger Looking You

Friday 23 February 2007 @ 10:14 am

You already know how to cleanse, moisturize and wear sunblock every day.  Here are other secrets to turning back the hands of time.

FACE
1 bring back the youthful glow
When skin starts to look dull or sallow, a quick fix is to add a serum to your daily routine. These lightweight fluids (or oils) are super-concentrated and are absorbed quickly, which means you get a blast of antiaging benefits. In the morning, you can use it under makeup. At night, apply it before your regular moisturizer to help it penetrate more deeply and give skin a double dose of good-for-you ingredients.

MOUTH
2 lock on to luscious lips
Does your lipstick start to feather an hour after you put it on? As we age, our lips get thinner and drier, their shape is less defined and the fine lines around them are much more noticeable, particularly if you are or were a smoker. To help lips stay full and kissable, use a lip moisturizer with peptides, which help plump and improve definition.

HANDS
3 help for hands
With so much focus on the face and neck, hands often get short shrift. But that’s a mistake—hands show our age, too. Slather on a hand cream that contains hydroquinone, an FDA-approved lightener for brown spots and freckles.

Bits and Pieces, This and That

Friday 23 February 2007 @ 9:03 am

I’ve been so busy the week running up to CNY that I’ve totally forgotten to wish everyone “Xin Nien Kuai Le, Gong Xi Fatt Chai“. :) Hope I’m not too late.

Other happenings include my other free WP blog being suspended due to my paid posting. What other more appropriate time for WP to do it than on the eve of CNY!!! Ok, I admit, I was waiting for that bomb to drop sooner or later but they did not even sent me any warning email like what others received. Thus, I appealed and they opened up the access to me but I have to move my paid posts away.

I’m still a bit disappointed with WP as I thought PPP was on the negotiating path to get them to accept paid posting. Apparently, the Customer Service at WP claimed it was LIE NOT TRUE! Ok, so I give everyone the benefit of the doubt. I’m just sad that I will need to “kill” my other blog which has a PR of 4. Sad, but it must be done. I cannot juggle so many blogs at one time.

So, further changes here will be to include fashion and beauty in this blog. I love writing and gathering tips on the above topics and see no reason why I should give up what I love. So, there! You have it….many changes coming your way.

Meantime, I need to think of a new tagline for this blog…..

How To Prevent Breast Cancer?

Thursday 15 February 2007 @ 2:50 pm

I’ve had two surgeries to remove breast lumps on my left breast and fortunately for me, the result was negative for cancer. It really gave me quite a scare so, I would like to share this article with all women….

Did you know that there are quite a number of things that you can do to help reduce your chances of developing breast cancer?

For example, it might surprise you to learn that your weight is a key factor in whether you develop breast cancer or not. If a lot of extra fat is collecting around your middle, that gives you an increased risk factor of breast cancer.  This is especially true after menopause.  A high fat diet also increases your risk for developing this disease.  It’s crucial that you get a handle on keeping your weight in check.  As a result, you’ll be healthier and protect yourself from not only breast cancer but other deadly diseases as well.

I don’t know if you’re aware of the fact, but exercise is critical in protecting yourself against breast cancer.  If you haven’t started and maintained a regular program of exercising, there’s no better time to begin than right now!  Why not start a walking program and walk around the block on a regular basis?  It might surprise you to learn that even if you only exercise an hour and 15 minutes each week, that will be a big help to your health.  Want to boost your protection even more — simply exercise 2 1/2 hours per week or more.

Studies have shown the more exercise you do, your risk of developing breast cancer lowers.

Here’s another surprising fact.  If you decide not to have any children, that will increase your risk of developing breast cancer.  If you wait until after you are 30 to have your first child, that will also increase your risk.

Breast-feeding seems to have an important relationship to the prevention of breast cancer.  Those who breast-feed their children for about one and a half to two years actually decrease in a significant way their risk of developing breast cancer.

If breast cancer runs in your family, you should be cautious about taking hormonal replacements because that increases your risk of not only developing breast cancer, but also experiencing heart attacks, strokes and even blood clots.

It’s a proven fact that women who drink alcohol also have a greater possibility of developing breast cancer.  Want to decrease your risk of developing breast cancer?  Don’t drink alcohol at all.

Breast cancer is a dangerous foe, so protect yourself as much as possible by following the tips in this article.

A Banana A Day

Thursday 15 February 2007 @ 2:41 pm

Bananas have been the alltime favorite and perennial fruit for hundreds of years now. It has many curative properties. This fruit is affordable by anyone and is available in plenty in India. All the varieties available are beneficial in their own way.

Banana is rich in fiber content and also contains natural sugars like sucrose, fructose and glucose. Research has proven that just two bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout. No wonder the banana is the number one fruit with the world’s leading athletes. It can also help overcome or prevent a substantial number of illnesses and conditions, making it a must to add to our daily diet.

Depression: According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND amongst people suffering from depression, many felt much better after eating a banana. This is because bananas contain tryptophan, a type of protein that the body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier.

PMS: Forget the pills — eat a banana. The vitamin B6 it contains regulates blood glucose levels, which can affect your mood.

Anemia: High in iron, bananas can stimulate the production of hemoglobin in the blood and so helps in cases of anemia.

Blood Pressure: This unique tropical fruit is extremely high in potassium yet low in salt, making it the perfect way to beat blood pressure. So much so, the US Food and Drug Administration has just allowed the banana industry to make official claims for the fruit’s ability to reduce the risk of blood pressure and stroke.

Brain Power: 200 students at a Twickenham (Middlesex) school were helped through their exams this year by eating bananas at breakfast, break, and lunch in a bid to boost their brain power. Research has shown that t the potassium-packed fruit can assist learning by making pupils more alert.

Talk About Bad Dates…

Saturday 10 February 2007 @ 12:47 pm

We have all had bad dates…..but this takes the cake. This just tells you how tough it is to be single nowadays. This was on the
“Tonight Show” with Jay Leno.

Jay went into the audience to find the most embarrassing first date that a
woman ever had. The winner described her worst first date experience. There
was absolutely no question as to why her tale took the prize!

She said it was midwinter… snowing and quite cold… and the guy had
taken her skiing in the mountains outside Salt Lake City, Utah. It was a
day trip (no overnight). They were strangers, after all, and truly had
never met before. The outing was fun but relatively uneventful until they
were headed home late that afternoon. They were driving back down the
mountain, when she gradually began to realize that she should not have had
that extra latte. They were about an hour away from anywhere with a rest
room and in the middle of nowhere! Her companion suggested she try to hold
it, which she did for a while. Unfortunately, because of the heavy snow
and slow going, there came a point where she told him that he had better
stop and let her pee beside the road, or it would be the front seat of his
car.

They stopped and she quickly crawled out beside the car, yanked her pants
down and started. In the deep snow she didn’t have good footing, so she let
her butt rest against the rear fender to steady herself. Her companion
stood on the side of the car watching for traffic and in deed was a real
gentleman and refrained from peeking. All she could think about was the
relief she felt despite the rather embarrassing nature of the situation.
Upon finishing however, she soon became aware of another sensation.

As she bent to pull up her pants, the young lady discovered her buttocks
were firmly glued against the car’s fender. Thoughts of tongues frozen to
pump handles immediately came to mind as she attempted to disengage her
flesh from the icy metal. It was quickly apparent that she had a brand new
problem due to the extreme cold. Horrified by her plight and yet aware of
the humor of the moment, she answered her date’s concerns about “what is
taking so long” with a reply that indeed, she was “freezing her butt off
and in need of some assistance!”

He came around the car as she tried to cover herself with her sweater and
then, as she looked imploringly into his eyes, he burst out laughing. She
too, got the giggles and when they finally managed to compose themselves,
they assessed her dilemma..

Obviously, as hysterical as the situation was, they also were faced with a
real problem. Both agreed it would take something hot to free her chilly
cheeks from the grip of the icy metal! Thinking about what had gotten her
into the predicament in the first place, both quickly realized that there
was only one way to get her free. So, as she looked the other way, her
first-time date proceeded to unzip his pants and pee her butt off the
fender.

As the audience screamed in laughter, she took the Tonight Show prize hands
down… or perhaps that should be “pants down.” ..

And you thought your first date was embarrassing. Jay Leno’s comment

“This certainly brings a new meaning to Getting Pissed Off” :) :) :)

Hair Transplant

Friday 9 February 2007 @ 8:52 pm

I used to have very thick hair in my school days but since I started work, my hair has grown thinner and thinner. Sometimes, I get scared when I see the amount of hair that fell on my bathroom floor.

There was a time when I panicked and even started reading about hair transplant :( I read about Feller Medical Hair Transplant Clinic which handles modern natural hair transplant surgery. Dr.Feller, a World class hair loss surgeon,  personally meets with every patient on their consultation to evaluate discuss their current condition. Now, that’s what I call service! The hair restoration techniques used includes traditional strip hair transplant  and scapel free fue hair transplant. You can read all about it here.

Fortunately for me, I’ve discovered that loosing 50 to 100 hairs per day is normal, so I guess I am considered fine. Phew. For those who are having more serious hair loss problems, do check out the above site or possibly call Toll Free 1-800-HAIRS-2-U for further consultation.

Ginger - Powerful Cancer Killer

Friday 9 February 2007 @ 11:27 am

A Cancer Killer in the Kitchen

The powerful healing effects of ginger have been well documented. It’s a proven remedy for upset stomach. Reams of studies show that it  inhibits inflammation. And there is substantial evidence that it fights cancer too. For instance, a recent University of Michigan study showed that when ginger was added to ovarian cancer cells in the laboratory, it caused the cancer cells to self-destruct (a process known as “apoptosis”).

In a separate study at the University of Minnesota, researchers injected colon cancer cells into mice that were bred to have no immune system. Half of these mice were routinely fed gingerol, the main active component in ginger. The researchers found that the mice that were fed gingerol lived longer, their tumors were smaller, and the cancer did not spread as widely as in the control group. With all these health benefits, you should be using ginger as often as you can. The best way I’ve found to get a healthy serving of ginger is to juice it. (The brand of juicer I use is an Omega.) Two or three  days a week, you can juice an apple or two, some carrots, spinach,  broccoli, cabbage, and a big piece of ginger root. The ginger will  give the drink a great flavor and a powerful anti-cancer kick.

It’s highly recommended ! Give it a try !

Strawberries have the highest total antioxidant power among major fruits & protect the body from cancer causing, blood vessels clogging free radicals.

True Story

Thursday 8 February 2007 @ 4:43 pm

This is a true story of a young college girl who passed away last month, at Shah Alam her name is Priya. She was hit by a lorry. I dont want to mention the name of the college. She has a boy friend named Shankar. He stays in Johor. Both of them are true lovers. They always hang on the phone. U can never see her without her handphone. She spends 3/4 of the day talking with Shankar. Priya’s family knows about their relationship.Shankar is very close with Priya’s family (just imagine their love). Before she passed away she always told her friends “If I pass away please burn me with my handphone” she also said the same thing to her parents.

After her death, people could not lift her coffin. I was there. A lot of them tried to do so but still could not. Everybody including me, had tried to carry the coffin, the result was still the same. Eventually, they called their neighbour, a “bomoh” from Thailand (Pak Darin), who is a friend of her father. He took a seat and started speaking to himself slowly. After a few minutes, he said “this girl misses something here”. Then her friends told Darin bout her intention to burn her with her phone. He then opened the coffin and place her phone and SIM card inside the casket. After that they tried to carry the coffin. It could be moved and they carried it into the van easily. All of us were shocked (Can u feel the fear and goose bumps?)

Priya’s parents didn’t inform Shankar that Priya had passed away (pity Shankar). After 2 weeks Shankar called Priya’s mom. Shankar :….”Aunty, I’m coming home today cook something nice for me. Dont tell Priya that I’m coming home today. I want to suprise her.” Her mother replied…..”U come home first, I want to tell u something very important.” After he came to Shah Alam, they told him the truth about Priya. Shankar thinks that they were playing a fool. He was laughing and said “Don’t try to fool me. Tell Priya to come out. I have a gift for her please stop this nonsense” Then, they showed him the original death certificate to make him believe.(Shankar started to sweat) He said… “It’s not true. We just spoke yesterday. She still calls me”, Shankar was shaking. Suddenly, Shankar’s phone rang. “See this is from Priya. See this…” he showed the phone to Priya’s family. All of them told him to answer. He talked using the loudspeaker mode. All of them heard his conversation Loud and Clear. No cross lines, no humming. It is the actual voice of Priya & there is no way others could use her simcard since it is nailed inside the coffin the were so shocked and asked for Pak Darin’s help again. Pak Darin brought his master (Tok Chen) to solve this matter. He & Darin worked for 5 hours. Then they discovered one thing…

Frustrated with WP

Tuesday 6 February 2007 @ 2:13 pm

If anybody tells me that conquering Word Press was easy this very moment, I would bash that person until he gets all blue and black!!!

I HATE! HATE! HATE! Word Press *sob sob* This is one of the worst blogging moments in my life. I’ve actually had to edit two posts for 30 to 40 times due to alignment and yet, they still look awful. I never had that problem with blogspot before.

I wanna bang my keyboard each time I view my blog, it’s so irritating. I seriously need to get a sifu to teach me WP. Help, help *grovels on the floor* Any volunteers?
