Being a beautiful woman, and a famous and successful actress, Anne Hathaway suffers from the same insecurities as most beautiful women – “I think I’ve got really weird features…. “, she said in an interview in the March issue of InStyle magazine. Anne goes on to say she is not too happy with her looks – looks with which the average American woman would love to have been blessed!
Anne really takes pride in the way she looks and dresses. How could a woman emulate her natural, signature look, and beautiful sense of style? Style-watchers describe her as favoring mostly clean, classic outfits with bold colors and carefully chosen jewelry and trimmings. She is fast becoming one of American society’s favorite fashion icons.
Keep an eye out for old fashioned or vintage clothing that looks ‘boring’ and plain. Spice up the clothing with exciting, colorful accessories. Start favoring colors such as electric blue, fire engine red, awesome orange. Bright colors stand out on simple, plain black. Choose dresses with just the right balance of contrasting colors to obtain a flirtatious look. Look closely at dresses that are short – similar to an afternoon tea-party style for those competitive black tie evening events. Blouses or dresses with unusual necklines are always an everlasting favorite. If the outfit itself has one or two unique features, make sure the accessories are minimal so as not to overpower the overall effect.
Anne Hathaway’s make up is of course always perfect: keep the foundation neutral, eye color must be soft and natural but with loads of mascara and of course lots of bold red lipstick – et voila! Anne Hathaway herself could not fail to notice an interestingly similar look to hers with a knowing smile! As she says, “I like people who are true to themselves,”.
Celebrity Hollywood hairstylist, Colleen LaBaff who served as the Assistant Head of Department along with two other top hairstylists, Frida Aradottir and Jas Kimble, helped create the overall looks for the sultry movie, BURLESQUE. According to Colleen, the inspiration behind the hairstyles included Period, Modern Day, and Edgy Looks. Together, with the movie’s director, head hair department and costume designer, along with archives of photos and research, they strategized and created looks for Christina Aguilera, Julianne Hough, Kristen Bell, and all of the dancers that performed with Christina and all of the cast members.
Christina Aguilera as Ali
Hairstylist Frida Aradottir achieved one of Christina’s many glamorous looks by spraying White Sands Liquid Texture Medium Hold Styling Spray onto damp hair and drying tresses with the IT&LY HAIRFASHION Italian Racing Red Ionic Blow Dryer (as seen in the movie at each dancer’s dressing table). Once hair was dry, she took small sections, utilizing a small barrel curling iron to curl the entire head. After these tight curls were created, she brushed it all out and massaged a small amount of IT&LY HAIRFASHION’S Pure Water Drops into the curls for a softer look full of volume. To finish, she misted with White Sands Infinity Hairspray for hold.
Tyne Stecklein as Jesse
To achieve this sexy blonde’s look, Colleen LaBaff created the foundation for long lasting curls using White Sands Liquid Texture Firm Hold Styling Spray evenly dispersing throughout the hair. After blow drying this product in with the IT&LY HAIRFASHION Blow Dryer, she applied IT&LY’s Pure Water Drops to add additional shine. Using small and medium sized curling irons, Colleen alternated both the direction and the size of the curls. To hold in place, she used IT&LY HAIRFASHION Pure Definition Hair Spray to provide movement and hold.
Chelsea Traille as Coco
For one of Chelsea’s looks, Jas Kimble curled the front with a curling iron and then braided the hair up in the back followed by attaching a fall. With working with hair pieces and wigs, the hair department pre-set most of these pieces so they were fresh and ready to go. This fall was one of the wigs that had already been wet set, so after she attached it, Jas brushed it out to complete the style. Next, she created finger waves in the front section of the hair using her fingers and long clips to hold them in. When finished, Jas entwined them into the fall. For hold, she used IT&LY HAIRFASHION Pure Definition Hair Spray.
For a second look, she applied several products from Kimble Hair Care Systems to Chelsea’s hair and then pulled her tresses up into a high, sleek ponytail. She then attached a faux ponytail (which was sewn on because it was so long) and used White Sands Infinity Hair Spray and the IT&LY HAIRFASHION Blow Dryer as part of the attachment process.
Celebrity hairdresser and recent award winning hairstylist from IT&LY HAIRFASHION Marcia Hamilton was the creative genius behind the multiple hair changes for the new tween pop star Willow Smith’s new music video.
The song titled, “Whip My Hair” gave Marcia the artistic edge to have hair transform into the main focus of the video.
By creating ultra-long braids that were then dipped in paint, Willow’s song title instantly came to life, allowing her hair to become her very own brush to add color and zest. While creating these braids, Marcia applied White Sands Orchids Oil throughout Willow’s hair to add shine and ease braiding.
To create the “Heart Hawk” structure in the beginning of the video, Marcia wrapped the braids around a pre-made wire shaped heart and secured with lots of glue. To finish, she sprayed this funky one of a kind design with IT&LY HAIRFASHION’S Purity Design Pure Definition Hairspray.
For the faux-hawk variation, Marcia hand colored clip in hair extensions with bright colors using IT&LY’s Colorly Xtreme Colors. This is a quick and easy way to add rock star flair to any hairstyle without it being permanent.
Willow’s next look was the “Cotton Candy Dream” hand colored lightly with pinks and greens. To hold these poofs in place, Marcia added hues of pastel colors using IT&LY HAIRFASHIONS Colorly Xtreme and Colorly Hair Color to the pieces, then holding the shapes in place with White Sand’s Stuck Up Mega Hold Hairspray.
Celebrity hairdresser Marcia Hamilton definitely knows how to give Willow Smith hair she can whip!
For those who want their hair to be a comfortable and manageable length, mid length hairstyles can be perfect. With hair that’s of a medium length, many women find they’re able to enjoy the best of both worlds, as a lot of the most popular styles for long and short hair translate well to medium length hair. Mid length hairstyles are extremely versatile, and anyone can easily go from formal to very trendy with only a few minor adjustments.
Mid length hair extends from beyond the end of the nose to just beneath the chin, and anything beyond that’s considered long. Medium length hair does not come down to shoulder level, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be tied back. Many of the most elegant ponytail styles are available to women with mid length hair.
Some attractive mid length hairstyles involve curling. Curled, mid length hair can look stunning, especially if the curls are soft and fluffy and the overall effect is one of bounce and light.
Mid length hairstyles may or may not feature a fringe, and one of the beauties of having mid length hair is that you’re not tied down to one particular feel.
Some good mid length hairstyles include having a layered cut that features a split fringe covering part of the face. This is an excellent style if you want to look professional at the office but glamorous at night.
A bob is a great style to have if you want something practical that shows off your facial features well. Seemingly never out of style, mid length hair offers the perfect platform for a neat and sophisticated bob.
Mid length hair is versatile and has potential. Almost any look you’re trying to achieve can be attained through styling with mid length hair.
There are a wide variety of exciting hairstyles for curly hair, and choosing the right one can take time and patience. Given that curly hair is very different from straight hair, it demands a different approach when it comes to styling. As with any look, results depend largely on the quality of the cut. It’s always wise to get a good, professional haircut, from a stylist who’s aware of the unique nature of curly hair. Well-cut and properly maintained curly hair will hang and look naturally beautiful without too much styling.

One popular way of wearing curly hair is in the ‘Twisted Updo’ style. For this style to be achieved hair must be swept back into a ponytail that rests on the back of
the crown. Curls are allowed to flow freely from the base of the ponytail and secured to the back of the scalp to form a lush, curly bun.
Another great way of wearing curly hair is in the ‘Half Up and Half Down’ style. For this style it’s necessary to wash and dry the hair, and to apply a product to define the curls. Once that’s been done thumbs can be positioned above the earlobes and moved inward at a 45-degree angle toward the centre of the head. When thumbs meet at the back of the head hair can be bundled, lifted and tied into a ponytail that produces a loose and casual look.
The ‘side sweep’ is another favourite from the many hairstyles for curly hair. For this kind of ponytail the hair is tied back behind one ear, allowing it to cascade. A flat iron is used to straighten hair from the roots to the middle and separated into 1” sections. A curling iron is then used to produce ringlets.
There are many hairstyles for short hair, and many reasons why women choose them. For some, short hair provides a businesslike chic to complement a professional attitude. For others short hair will accentuate strong facial features to bring about a more confident and dynamic appearance. Some women simply
feel like a change after years of having longer hair in a more traditional style. Some hairstyles for short hair are very distinctive, and feature varying lengths, curls and dyes.
Hairstyles for short hair are many and varied, so there are plenty of different looks to choose from. For most short hairstyles the same products that are used on long hair work well. Gels and mousses will help to lock interesting designs in place and allow for
some very creative hair styling. For short hairstyles waxes and pomades can provide an excellent means of styling that wouldn’t be in any way suitable for long hair.
As a general rule, hairstyles for short hair are those that have hair extending no further than the tip of the nose at the front and the middle of the ears at the sides. At the most extreme end of the scale is buzzed hair, which is no more than a few millimetres in length anywhere on the scalp. Crop hairstyles cover the head with more length and as a result offer more possibilities in the way of styling. Hair that’s in a short bob style or features layers or coifs is on the longer end of the short hair spectrum. Hairstyles for short hair tend to require regular trimming for the style to remain. Short hair’s certainly moved in and out of fashion over the years, but now it’s well established in the mainstream and it looks like it’s here to stay.
For a wedding everyone wants to look their best and bridesmaid hairstyles will always reflect that. While not wanting to upstage the bride herself, every bridesmaid wants to look elegant and beautiful on the big day. With her role in mind, the bridesmaid will focus on simple techniques that achieve a plain, elegant style that fits her and the occasion perfectly.
Bridesmaids with short hair will find it easiest to achieve a modest yet stylish look. With less hair to work with, all sections can be made beautiful and decorated wonderfully. A good idea is to introduce light layers, with the hair fastened behind the ears and the fringe slightly parted, and then to add accessories that match the dress.
Bridesmaid hairstyles for those with medium-length hair vary. A popular choice is to create a bundle effect that features some loose strands that flow freely. In order for the hair to slightly cover the ears and be brushed back, the hair can either be layered or curled. Hair should be fully parted at the front to highlight both the face and the hair, and accessories added to match the dress. Tumbling curls or soft ringlets are also an excellent choice.
For a subtle yet attractive look, bridesmaid hairstyles for those with long hair also tend to focus on ties at the back, since the emphasis is on looking good without attracting too much attention. An effective way of dressing hair is to tie it in a light and demure bundle that’s positioned at the back of the head rather than at the crown. Clips may be used if they don’t attract a lot of attention. One of the other popular bridesmaid hairstyles for those with long hair is the ‘French Knot’. This looks great with loose strands flowing.

If you’re getting tired of managing your hair or you just want a stylish look that’s easy to maintain, braided hairstyles are a very good option. While it’s true that they take time, braids afford you the option of choosing between many different styles without the need for cutting.
There are many braided hairstyles available, and one of the most popular is still the traditional single plait. Combined with a fringe that sweeps to the side, a single plait is a classic hairstyle that may never go out of fashion. Another of the most popular braided hairstyles is micro braid. These are very thin plaited braids that can be worn by both men and women.
French braids are slightly more complex than a simple plait, but benefit from that in terms of elegance. They
weave tightly around the back of the head so as to gather all the hair together but flow into a single plait nearer the bottom.
The ‘Basket-Weave’ style’s popular among those wishing to achieve an interesting look on a special occasion. These braids form a criss-cross pattern on the crown of the head and consist of many smaller plaits. Loose hair beneath the neck level can be curled and tied into a bun, and the overall effect is one of complexity and sophistication.
For a feminine look, many women choose ‘Fishtail’ braids. Also popular for children, this type of braiding is not dissimilar to French braids except that strands of hair gathered from the back are very thin.
There are many African braided hairstyles that combine intricacy with colour and vivacity. One of the most popular is the ‘Zulu Knot’. This involves the hair being divided into rectangles or triangles across the scalp and then tied into a knot and braided.
On Sunday, July 25th the cast of the hit series “Mad Men” took to Duffy Square in New York City for the much-anticipated Season 4 Premiere. Actress January Jones sparkled on the red carpet in a haute couture gown and a modern Grecian-inspired hairstyle that complimented the
look. Sebastian Professional Stylist Design Team Member Thomas Dunkin tended to the tresses of the leading lady, and shares a step-by-step “how-to” for achieving the actress’ slightly undone updo with modern texture:
1. Starting with damp hair, saturate strands from root to tip with Sebastian Professional Volupt Spray.
2. Tousle hair with fingers while blow-drying to work in volume to maintain a look of “yesterday” texture.
3. Once dry, run hands through hair while spraying Sebastian Professional Re-Shaper throughout for added texture and hold.
4. Randomly select pieces to set with a curling iron for another dousing of texture.
5. Section off hair starting at the top slightly to the right of center.
6. With each section, apply a dab of Sebastian Professional Matte Putty and twist the hair from front to nape making sure to keep a random, textured effect.
7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 across the whole head, securing each section with clear Blax bands and bobby pins.
8. Massage the hair over the whole head, pulling slightly, for a disheveled finish with a modern twist.
