Female hair loss can be very distressing, but many women don’t realise that it is more common than they may think. Often, hair loss is temporary and can be attributed to outside factors such as diet or increased stress; luckily this can usually be remedied once the underlying problem is identified. Stressful situations can physically impact the body; often appetite and general vivacity is lost and hair becomes brittle and prone to falling out. This type of hair loss will usually stop as the stress subsides and hair will tend to grow back as before. Poor nutrition can cause hair loss in women as the body is being deprived of the nutrients and vitamins it needs to maintain its health and encourage hair growth; again, as with stress, once the situation is resolved the hair will usually grow back.
Unfortunately, sometimes female hair loss cannot be attributed to any factor and is simply a natural thinning of the hair that is similarly experienced by men. Although this type of hair loss is often not reversible, it can often be prevented or stopped by using specially formulated shampoos designed to promote hair growth. These shampoos and treatments do come with mixed results but many consider them to be worth a try as they may provide the desired results. Women suffering from female hair loss are also encouraged to massage their head and scalp regularly; this is because poor circulation can also affect hair growth and regular massaging of the scalp can improve the blood circulation.
It is only in a small number of cases that female hair loss is caused by other more serious problems; alopecia is a condition that causes spots of baldness over a scalp and can affect both men and women. This type of condition can only be diagnosed by a visit to a specialist; an unusual part of this condition is that is can go away over time and hair can grow back; it can also flare up again in later life or go into remission completely.
