Itchy feet? Want to see the world? Empty bank account? Don’t worry; there are ways that you can get to travel frequently without breaking your budget.
Firstly, be flexible about where you travel to and when you go. If you have your heart set on a particular destination, you’ll probably end up paying over the odds to go there. If you spot a bargain destination, grab it. Chances are you’ll have the best time of your life. If you can travel mid-week, out of season and avoid college vacation time, then you’re more likely to be able to pick up cheap travel tickets and accommodation.
Use your contacts! You’ve probably got loads of friends and friends of friends all over the world via social networking sites. They may be happy to put you up for a few days for free, especially if you’re prepared to reciprocate. Make sure never to outstay your welcome though and offer to contribute to expenses. Another alternative that relies on the goodwill of strangers is “couchsurfing”. Alternatively, consider house swapping with someone for a really cheap vacation.
Consider getting a temporary job that actually pays you to travel! You could work as a tour guide, courier, paid companion, home help or au-pair for example. Or how about delivering cars? There are companies out there that need people to deliver vehicles for them, sometimes across continents.
Another way to satisfy your itchy feet is to volunteer. There are plenty of charitable organizations that need willing people to work on their projects. You normally have to cover your travel costs but once you’re there, your living expenses are usually taken care of and you can always extend your stay after your volunteering period ends.
Even on a tight budget, frequent travel is possible!
The name Jimmy Choo is synonymous with stunning, hand-made shoes. Born in Malaysia into a family of shoemakers, it was perhaps always to be his destiny to go into the footwear game, but who could possibly have known that from such humble beginnings, his name would become so iconic and his exquisite women’s shoes so coveted? It is said that Jimmy made his first pair of shoes when he was just eleven years old. He studied at the Cordwainers College in London and after graduation, opened his first workshop in Hackney in 1986. The renowned fashion magazine, Vogue can be said to have helped launch his meteoric rise to success
when, in 1988, they featured an eight page spread of his shoes and soon after, Diana, Princess of Wales was buying his wares! In 1996, the company Jimmy Choo Ltd. was founded, a joint venture between himself and Tamara Mellon of UK Vogue magazine.
Jimmy Choo’s signature style is to design shoes that are elegant and feminine, high fashion, yet comfortable to wear. From knee length boots to slip-on mules and skyscraper knockout heels, his footwear can be seen adorning the feet of celebrities worldwide. Always elegant, always stylish and always made from the highest quality materials such as leather, silks and satins and with the utmost attention to detail, it is easy to see why these shoes have a price tag to match their heel height! Nowadays, there are also Jimmy Choo shoes for men, made with the same care and quality, as well as a range of Jimmy Choo purses and accessories.
In 2003, Jimmy Choo was awarded an OBE by the Queen, in recognition of his services to the UK fashion industry. Jimmy once said in an interview that he falls in love with his shoes. He’s not the only one!
Being a beautiful woman, and a famous and successful actress, Anne Hathaway suffers from the same insecurities as most beautiful women – “I think I’ve got really weird features…. “, she said in an interview in the March issue of InStyle magazine. Anne goes on to say she is not too happy with her looks – looks with which the average American woman would love to have been blessed!
Anne really takes pride in the way she looks and dresses. How could a woman emulate her natural, signature look, and beautiful sense of style? Style-watchers describe her as favoring mostly clean, classic outfits with bold colors and carefully chosen jewelry and trimmings. She is fast becoming one of American society’s favorite fashion icons.
Keep an eye out for old fashioned or vintage clothing that looks ‘boring’ and plain. Spice up the clothing with exciting, colorful accessories. Start favoring colors such as electric blue, fire engine red, awesome orange. Bright colors stand out on simple, plain black. Choose dresses with just the right balance of contrasting colors to obtain a flirtatious look. Look closely at dresses that are short – similar to an afternoon tea-party style for those competitive black tie evening events. Blouses or dresses with unusual necklines are always an everlasting favorite. If the outfit itself has one or two unique features, make sure the accessories are minimal so as not to overpower the overall effect.
Anne Hathaway’s make up is of course always perfect: keep the foundation neutral, eye color must be soft and natural but with loads of mascara and of course lots of bold red lipstick – et voila! Anne Hathaway herself could not fail to notice an interestingly similar look to hers with a knowing smile! As she says, “I like people who are true to themselves,”.
Nails of the moment are becoming as much of a fashion statement as an outrageous hairstyle! For the first time in New York fashion week history, the Shellac & Fashion Fusion runway show caused quite a stir. Comments like “…it’s a dip into the outrageous without being over the top…” abounded. The houses of Prada, China Glaze and Sally Hansen were all there.
Some of the colors and patterns previewed for this spring and summer are so daring – for example, a whole set of technical-savvy nails literally at your fingertips!
Moon manicures – retro and unusual, a white base color, then a rounded tip of French black à la French Foreign Legion! The moon area next to the cuticle is also black. Nail art pens needed for this if a steady hand cannot be kept.
Metallic and Gold Foil – a flash of heavy metal with a dash of grit dating back to the 1960’s rock ‘n roll! Try mixing Silver Chrome, Putty and Ice Blue Shimmer. Then use Gold polish deliberately “chipped” for the true dashed metal shine – apply with chunks of polish using tweezers.
Pop Art Graphics & Neutrals – creative use of patterns play with polka dots, checks and stripes in any contrasting or non-matching colors – anything goes. Pale pink and white now used to create pretty candy stripes with white. Bold electric blue made an appearance, and try out opaque nail pens! Another first is pale beige with a thin strip of orange between nail tip and the nail bed – very smart looking.
Lastly, get this, in honor of the British Royal wedding, Katy Perry had some customized nail art of Kate and William made, well mainly of William! The mind just boggles with what can be done…
Reports are rolling in of the long-term damage almost certainly caused by the currently fashionable sky-high ladies shoes. Obviously fashion is priceless as no one appears to be worrying too much about future bodily damage as sales for these potentially damaging shoes with high stiletto heels continue to soar! According to consultant podiatric surgeon Mike O’Neill, spokesman for the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists, “High heels make you raise your heel and as soon as you do that your center of gravity is (unnaturally) pushed forward.”
The problem with most young adults today is that they do not realize the long term harm they are causing to their feet. They blindly follow a hedonistic lifestyle to the detriment of their health. In addition, as these shoes become more popular with newer younger generations, they are being worn for longer hours – worn all day at work, worn all night at nightclubs and worn far too long to stand around and have a chat, and then finally, to dance! No wonder when teenagers are fetched from nightclubs shoes in hand, moaning “My feet are killing me…” No prizes for guessing why they are being dubbed ‘killer heels’.
Research carried out recently suggests that women are starting to suffer from the inevitable problems of hammer toes, bunions and permanent injury to tendons in the legs. Naturally, it is obvious that the higher the heel, the greater the pressure; and the greater the possibility of damage to the back and knees in later life. These problems do not occur at odd times in later life, they all converge on the person at one and the same time! Horror of horrors – remember to keep a wheelchair handy.
How high a price do you actually want to pay for fashion?

The iconic era of the 70s has returned to catwalks and style guides across the world this summer and has been passed onto the high streets and online retailers. This summer’s direction has been taken from the likes of Marc Jacobs, Rebecca Taylor and Tracy Reese who have all taken inspiration from the styles first created back in the 70s from forward thinking stylists much like themselves.
The denim trends of the 70s are especially in demand as they begin to hit the streets in the form of high waisted denim shorts and trousers, likely to only appeal to small audience but definitely a style critics say will be big this summer regardless of whether you love it or hate it.
Fun summery dresses inspired by the 70s will also play an integral role in recreating the glam rock look ideal for festivals and summery days. Another 70s favourite which is coming back big this summer is jumpsuits, although not likely to be everybody’s preferred style it will definitely bring back strong visions of the 70s era.
The 70s styled dresses and jumpsuits can be combined with other hot summer trends by wearing them in either floral prints or block colours to maximise the full on-trend summer 2011 look.
However if you’re in doubt on how to get the full 70s look or what to mix the best and safest option will always be our trusty friend – denim! Synonymous with the 70s but by no means a stranger in any of the other decades. To complete the denim 70s look either go for flared or wide-leg style in the customary high waisted jeans.
When it comes to ensuring that you get your look right there are a number of essential items that every woman should have in their makeup bag. There are a few things that you will have to have in order to ensure that you look fantastic whether it is day or night and a few of these items are listed below:
• It is important that you have products in order to ensure your skin is kept looking in great condition. You need to have a good quality cleanser, toner and moisturiser if you want your skin to look good.
• Foundation is required as a base for your makeup. Your foundation should match your skin colour and should not be too dark or too pale. It should be natural if you want to look good.
• If you suffer with skin blemishes or dark circles under your eyes, you will need to have a good concealer. Concealer is applied to these areas before the foundation is applied and it can make a huge difference to your appearance.
• Foundation should be applied with a foundation brush to give a light natural appearance. Your makeup brushes are very important as they are the tools with which you can ensure your makeup is applied properly.
• Blusher is something that can give you a healthy glow but should be applied carefully in order for it to look good. If your blusher is too heavy it can look comical instead of natural. This is something that you need to take care when applying.
• Eye makeup is very important to highlight your beautiful eyes. Eyeliner, mascara and eye shadow can really make eyes look fantastic when applied properly.
• Lipstick will ensure that your lips look luscious and can be very attractive if applied correctly.
